WYPR

We were real excited to shoot a video for WYPR, Baltimore’s NPR news station. It was great to document some of their “Growing Up Baltimore” series, and meet some of the people behind the series, both students and reporters. It’s great to put a face to the voices of people like Korva Coleman and Sunni Khalid.

The WYPR newsroom blog is where the video will be parked.

You can also see the edit of the video here on our website.

We’re also in the process of revamping our website to streamline the navigation. If you see anything wonky or that stands out as a good thing, please let us know!

Sacred Music CD

Prayers & Music of G.I. Gurdjieff has just been released on CD. Recorded live in Baltimore and Washington D.C., this disc has some beautiful and seminal music on it. I was at both performances. The music is moving and spacious, and as author Mary Ellen Korman says, “with a special quality of attention that calls us to listen actively.”

Hamilton Festival/Car Show

Posted in Corporate, video on October 12, 2009 by zinniafilms

We have been working with the Hamilton Lauraville Main Street to create a bunch of video content for the web, and this installment is an addition we’re proud of. The music, written and played by Crispy Bess of Southern Culture on the Skids fame, helps convey the excitement at the Hamilton Street Festival and car show. There were so many vendors and performers, it was hard to put all of them into a short video. Jason shot the day, I edited it, Alicia fine tuned and color corrected. But Regina Lansinger at the Main Street office made it all happen. She also provide the still images.

Sarah & Keith!

It was great to edit this full day for Sarah and Keith. Halfway through the reception at the Strong Mansion, Keith surprised Sarah with a serenade. We miked him, and Jason tweaked the audio to turn a decent recording into a beautiful piece. Late summer flowers were blooming, Stone Soup catered the event, with delicious pierogies with rosemary crema. We produced this in association with Love Life Images, which usually means an amazing production. Mary and Elisha shot the photos. We happy with this montage, and we’re excited to edit the whole video.

Baltimore Book Festival

The Baltimore Book Festival is this weekend. Three days of books and book sellers, author readings and talks, bands and food. Held in Mount Vernon for the past 14 years, the BBF is a great place to meet authors, buy great books, and spend an afternoon outdoors. Gurdjieff Legacy will have a booth there, featuring lots of great books from their Used Esoteric collection: tomes in fine condition, themed around spirituality.

Zinnia Films at the NYC Short Film Festival

Well, we’re really excited to announce that “Yard Sale” won an audience choice award at the New York City Short Film Festival this past weekend at the 92Y Tribeca! There were 24 films selected in all for the festival, with over 1000 submissions, so we were honored just to have had a film in the festival. That the festival goers selected “Yard Sale” for an audience choice award was wonderful. Thanks audience!

Lauren & Shane

We finished a full day montage for Lauren and Shane. They were wed on 9/5, and had a reception at the Congressional Country Club. We shot this one with Love Life Images, and it was an all-star team. Alicia was out of town, so Jason and I shot video, while Jennifer, Stephen and Jackie from Love Life shot the stills. Katie Martin planned the event. Her husband built the wall behind the bride and groom in the second ceremony (they had an outdoor ceremony after a small Catholic convalidation ceremony). It was a really beautiful wall, so we used it for the video studio. It also provided a a little more light for the camera.

This tune wasn’t on their list of music, but I spent almost a full day trying to find a song that fit what seemed to be the feel of the video. I tweaked the look of the video extensively in After Effects. I’m excited to finish the edit, because there were a lot of fun aspects of the day. I have to say though, the CCC is a little dark–those wood walls soak up all the light. Shooting the dancing was tricky until they turned an small spotlight on that was mounted to the bottom of the chandelier.

Lastly three of the last four weddings I’ve shot have had cigar rollers on site. I guess this is a new trend?
