We had an opportunity to work with Tompkins Square Records, as well as Ian Nagoski to produce a short mini doc and a one-minute teaser about the new 3-CD collection, “To What Strange Place: Music of the Ottoman-American Diaspora 1916-1929.” The shoot, directed by Dimmerswitch’s Matt Bowden (a seemingly perpetual collaborator with Zinnia), features some of the beautiful music from the collection that Nagoski sought and remastered. The shoot took a skeleton crew to the sleepy city of Frostburg to see Nagoski’s operation, as well as to Manhattan and Brooklyn for a listening party and for b-roll.
The music runs the gamut of dance numbers to despondent pieces longing for a world that immigrants fled, evading massacre. Check out the one minute trailer. We’re excited to see how the mini-doc shapes up in Bowden’s cutting room.
great job! this is awesome.
